Plakal/ Plackal/ Plakkal History

Plackal or Plakal Family was a part of Kalikavu family, one of the several brahmin families converted to Christianity by St. Thomas at Palayur during AD52. But later this family moved from Palayur to Chennamangalam near Parur. In 300 AD they moved to a place called Ambazhakkad near Mala, in fact this family founded the St. Thomas Church at Ambazakkad during that time.
Some members of this Kalikavu family got the "Plackal "name and over the years they have moved to different parts of Kerala . In central Travancore areas like Palai and Chenganacherry there are hundreds of families in Plackal, some with additions in their name like Valia plackal, Kada plackal, Otta plackal so on.

Now from this family at Vennur called "Akkanath /Thettayil Plackal" many members have migrated to Koratty, Kurumassery, Pariyaram, Kuttikad and Narakkal during the last 150 years.

So if you are a member of any of the plackal family or do you have any information about plackal family please contact me at jplakal@plackal.com

Cheers and keep smiling !!!
